About Movement:

Movement therapy is considered part of the creative art therapies which is an umbrella term referring to the use of various forms of creative expression in the therapeutic process. While Molly has experience using many different modalities in her work (e.g. artwork, creative writing, music and sound, expression through movement), her training is in movement therapy also known as somatic therapy.

Movement therapy is based on the empirically supported premise that body, mind and spirit are interconnected. The American Dance Therapy Association defines movement therapy as the psychotherapeutic use of movement to further the emotional, cognitive, physical and social integration of the individual. This may include mindfulness, stress reduction techniques, guided imagery/meditation, somatic experiencing and integrating present moment bodily experiences into the narrative.

Molly encorporates her knowledge of movement therapy into her work as a Pilates teacher and movement specialist. It should be noted however, that while these sessions work to enhance both physical and mental well-being they do not fall under the category of mental health.

Molly has been working with my daughter since she was eight years old. She is now entering high school. Molly has incorporated, Pilates, yoga, therapeutic movement, and more into their work together; and always in a creative and developmentally appropriate way. I cannot say enough about the impact she’s had on my daughter’s health, confidence and overall wellbeing.
